Swift Water Rescue by Lotte
This week we had swift water rescue. On Monday we did the "basic" skills of using a throw bag. When I heard throw bag I started laughing because i am known to accidentally throw the whole bag in the water while trying to save someone who is swimming. After practicing aiming off shore i was feeling pretty good and went in the first throw rope competition. You have to throw the rope all the way out, coil it back in then throw it again. when they told us what we had to do i thought it was easy, but i was wrong. when i threw the bag out it seemed to curve hard left and only go out about 3 metres, so when i was coiling up the rope it was only just coming out of the bag and it felt like one of those never ending ropes. Once i finally got all my rope coiled up everyone seemed to be finished, but i was proud of my efforts :) After the competition we had to practice throwing the bag out to a live target. When my partner was swimming out in the current, i aimed and threw the bag, it was a great throw and was just in arms reach of him, but just as i was about to celebrate i realized, i forgot to hold on to the end of the rope and i had just thrown in the whole bag in.
