Early Morning Surf Session by Nathan Bond

This Saturday I had my first early morning surf session at Mccoys.  The night before my fellow keeners were talking about getting out of bed as early as possible to go up to corner wave for a few hours before returning to Keenerville at 9 for a first aid course.  I was a little skeptical when they first told me there plan.  It was already late at night and they planned to wake up around 5:15.  Despite the lack of sleep I was going to receive I decided to suck it up and get on the water because the first aid course would take up the majority of my day.  That night I set my alarm for 5:15 and in the morning I woke up to the sound of my phone alarm in my ear.  Many keeners who were onboard the night before backed out when we tried to wake them up.  Only several of those originally fired-up actually put on their dry top and slid into the water.  I first paddled over to horseshoe where I practiced spins on both sides.

I walked up to corner wave a couple of times and attempted to do some spins on that wave but it was more flushy than usual at the morning's level.  After a few surfs I missed the eddy and paddled down to baby face.  The water level was so high that baby face had less foam and the eddy that you ferry out of to catch it was much smaller. It didn't take long before I gave up on baby face and went back to horseshoe.

As 8 o'clock approached all of started to wind down slowly.  Everyone did one last surf on horseshoe and headed back to Keenerville to have breakfast.  Looking back on it I have absolutely no regrets and plan on doing the same every Saturday morning.
