Thursday is the most anticipated day by Keeners because it is the day we intentionally surf the biggest holes and waves on the river. Sitting at the top of the eddie above McCoys before my first surf I was very nervous, just like everyone else. Once I dropped into left side Phil's, got thrown around a little, and finally flushed out I realized that big water beatdown thursdays aren't as bad as they sound.
Dropping into left side Phil's
As we moved down the river (I chose the main channel, others chose the middle), we made our way to the Colosium rapid where I ran straight into the biggest wave on the rapid called Big Kahunah. I got flushed out almost instantly again. I was pretty scared of big holes and waves before today but after experiencing 2 surfs on 2 of the biggest features on the river I realized that getting beatdown can be fun and you can gain very much experince by doing so.
