Send or no send. This question comes to every boaters mind before they go over the lip. To the ignorant eye kayakers look like crazy people. But what they don’t know is how much thought and training goes into making each decision on the water For example when pro boaters run larger drops they consider every variable, such as what angler their boat should land in order to have a good line, not piton/ get stuck behind a curtain, and most importantly not to land too flat and get spinal injury. But in my and many of the other keeners cases the decision to send or not to send comes at McCoys rapid, not a hundred-footer, on the best day of the week, “big water bacon beatdown Thursday”. On Thursday all of the keeners get the ultimate opportunity to challenge themselves by getting beat down in many of the Ottawa’s finest whitewater features. The most prominent being Phil’s hole. Located on the upper section of McCoys is the behemoth of Phil’s hole. Phil’s hole is split by a green tongue with the right side being the most infamous for dishing out exceptional beat downs. This is where many keeners were this morning asking themselves weather to send or no send. But all in all none of the keeners regret deciding to live life full send.
