Step 1: The setup
In order to go big on a blunt you must first cycle to the top of the wave in order to get the speed necessary.
Step 2: The take off
Once you have cycled to the top of the wave and you are speeding down the wave you must start to take off. If you are blunting to the left then first drop you right edge and vice versa. Often it helps to start with a bounce previous to your take off bounce and many times the wave requires you to take an acceleration stroke.
Step 3: the edge transition.
Once you are finished with the take off in order to actually blunt you must switch to opposite edge while placing your paddle vertically into the water next to you body. In order to properly control your blunt it is important that you keep looking up stream
while you blunt.
Step 4: the recovery.
Once you have thrown your blunt your next challenge is to stay on the wave. It is often necessary that you take a few backwards recovery strokes before you spin back into a front surf.
