During the third week of every keener session there is a river trip. This session we went to the Gatineau. This river is similar style to the Ottowa with lots of fun waves and big water. Last year during session two we also went there. It was super cool to be able to see the same rapid a year later and confidently run some of the lines I was nervous about last year. The first rapid is one of my favorites on the run. It begins with a few good surfwaves with many more as you go down. The rapid but also includes spots for good potential bestdowns, Lucifer's and Lefty's. Our morning started out by running lots of different lines. After surfing we had a boatercross race down the rapid. The person who won out of each heat would enter the finals boatercross. This was down another rapid with the top five finished. The next bracket of those who didn't get first in there heat competed in another boatercross down a rapid diffrent than the other two. During this race we were to go down the rapid and finish tapping nicks boat. The challange with this was that as some paddlers became close to Nicks boat he paddled up the eddy making it easier for those in the middle of the group to now get to him quicker. This taught all the paddlers a valuable lesson about competing; that the result might not always reflect how you paddled but you still know if you paddled your hardest and in the end it's just for fun.
