Beatdown Thursday by Ava Christensen

beatdown thursday

Beatdown Thursday is by far one of the most fun days at keeners. This thursday in particular was on of my favorites so far. We have this day for many reasons. One of which is because if we are ever in a situation  where we aren't in control we will at least have felt that feeling before. The day isn't just about beatdowns it also consists of fun downriver games such as getting out of your boat in difficult places. This is a skill that can come in handy if you ever were in a situation where you needed to be out of the water to set safety, avoid a unrunable rapid, or even shoot photo/video.  Another skill we work on is breath holding and being uncomfortable while underwater for longer periods of time. During this morning at Mcoys lots of keeners, including myself, were very stoked to get lots of surfs in right side. After this the group paddled to the Lorne where we got out of our boats in challenging places. At the top of the rapid we had two options; get out on the wall above pipeline or above the pourover. After successfully or unsuccessfully attempting one of these the next challange is the gangsters paradise island. This one can be more challenging than the others as if is right next to waikiki  and a very boily eddy. I had tried this a few times before but today was the first day I made it up the rock.
