Yakistan is so lit, it is in flames - Abby Holcombe

Fire it is something that you typically don't have to deal with being a kayaker. However, there are some situations where you might be baking for your very much so loved keener mom, Anna, a birthday cake. I decided to go ahead and preheat the oven while making the batter one of my friends, Anne walked in and noticed this smoke. I turned around noticing a smell myself to see Anne opening the oven with flames. I started to scream fire fire fire! And then I ran out the door to go find Anna or another adult.

So I was running to the common room, the Thunder Dome, screaming, “YAKISTAN IS ON FIRE YAKISTAN IS ON FIRE!!!!!” I come up to the Thunder Dome and start yelling at all the kids saying, “GO GET ANNA YAKISTAN IS ON FIRE HELP HELP HELP!!!” I was so concerned and luckily I found our coach TC and he ran back to Yakistan with me. As soon as I walked back in the door the fire was out and Anna and all the amazing people in Keenerville were surrounding the oven. Long story short we still made a cake but decided to use White House’s oven instead because ours was smoking hot since we decided to store our food in the oven. So if you ever go to Keeners make sure you stay in Yakistan because it is so lit it is in flames!

Burnt eggs and bagles: By Isabel

Burnt eggs for breakfast!!!!!... Again!!!
No matter what I do my fried eggs always burn. Maddie and Julie's eggs are always so perfect! I want to be able to make eggs like that. I love making my own breakfast and having freedom like we do at keeners. I imagined myself making gourmet eggs with toast but most days I have a bagel with cream cheese, cereal or burnt egg sandwiches. I didn't realize living with other people and keeping clean alone would be so easy!! Yakistan is the girls cabin. Its where Julie, Maddie live. There are only three of us this session so its easy to keep everything in order (except the dish rack, it never gets emptied!!) The house of two couches, box shaped kitchen, three small bedrooms and a bathroom sounds pretty big , but if you were my family of 6 it definitely wouldn't be. Its the perfect size for Julie, Maddie and I to live very comfortably.  We sweep the floor and clean the bathroom and dishes every morning before we leave and make sure to make our beds. Its week 2 and every once and a while when I don"t take a shower my bed gets covered in dirt and I haven't put my sheets in the dirty laundry, so I just throw my sleeping bag over my bed and hope nobody looks to see the mud and dirt... especially Anna!!!!

Yakistan Clan

Hey it's the Yakistan cabin!
Us girls have had an amazing week. Both on and off the water, we've learned that four girls can become very close in a very short period of time.
We've cheered on and supported each other on the water, to try new things, push our boundaries, and make the most of our experience with OKS Keeners.
Hannah surfed Garb for the first time ever, Nicole managed to achieve a solid hand roll, Rebecca has been succeeding her spins on Push Button and Baby Face, and Sydney has continued to surprise everyone with her keen and persevering attitude.
Off the water, we've shared late night laughs, stories, and friendships. We have also been tempted to kill one-another upon hearing each other's alarms early in the morning... (ahem....Rebecca...)
Three weeks sure goes by fast, yet it is long enough to create memories that we will all cherish forever.
We're all looking forward to our last week together, as we make the best of our friendship, and our kayaking.
                           Stay tuned!
