Three best things about Keeners:
- No matter how many times you come, there is always something different to learn! I’ve been coming to Keeners for four years now, and every year I find something that I can work on improving, whether it’s basics like how many ends in cartwheels I can do to improve more complicated tricks in a feature, or more advanced moves like mcnasties and panams/blunts. Even if someone can’t decide what truck they want to work on, the coaches always do an amazing job assessing skills and picking the features that will be best to teach people how to accomplish their goals.
- As kayaking is a largely male dominated sport, sometimes there aren’t many women, if any, in ones local paddling or outdoor scene, though this is changing (yay empowerment!) as more women join the community. At Keeners, it’s a fantastic environment to get to know many different female paddlers from around the world, making friendships that last a lifetime. Even if we don’t live near each other, it’s great to expand the whitewater community’s friendships in each area to different parts of the world.
- We learn to try the things that scare us, whether that’s launching yourself into a massive hole and getting completely annihalated, public speaking, or even making friends with the people you’ll be living with for the next three weeks of the summer! Every day we do something different that helps us get better, and by the end of the session everyone has improved on what they’ve been working on.
Come to Keeners!
