Girl Power at Keeners by Victoria Levi

Since I’ve stared kayaking, I have definitely noticed that there are a lot more boys then girls who paddle. Most of my paddling friends are male. At Keeners, seeing other young female paddlers was a relief — it wouldn’t be another camp where I was the only girl. Usually on kayaking trips, I have to fend for myself when it comes to girl stuff, but at Keeners, it’s so nice to have other girls to connect with about stuff like that. From helping each other out with new kayaking tricks, to hanging out and watching chick flicks after paddling, our group dynamic is super supportive, and SO fun. A few days ago, my friends Julia, Sophie, and I all held on to each other’s boats and hand paddled into push button. On our second try, we got a surf all together! It was super fun. Being able to do my favorite sport with a bunch of people who have similar experiences as I do is super cool. It makes me so excited to paddle and hang out every day!
