Big water beat down fun by max c
Every Thursday all Keeners try to push themselves and leave there comfort zones and we call this big water beat down Thursday’s. Every keener is different ether can’t wait for Thursday or hate the thought of pushing themselves and there limits. If you don’t know McCoy’s its a rapid just up stream from Keenerville and that’s where the main event of big water beat down Thursday happens. There are two holes that we are encouraged to surf and most of the time get smashed. These two holes are saddlers and Phil’s there is left side Phil’s and right side Phil’s. Left side Phil’s is a lot more flushy and you probably won’t be surfing it anymore that 10 seconds but Right side Phil’s is not a place for the faint hearted it’s sticky and will throw you around like a rag doll.
I wake up on a Thursday morning excited for the day ahead I had bacon for breakfast because it’s tradition to have bacon of Thursday’s. We paddle to McCoy’s and walk up the rapid with our boats a few people go down and surf one of the three sections. I decided I would warm up with left side Phil’s because it was my first run office the day so I paddle down into
Left side Phil’s and drop when I hit the foam pile I fill the force of the water and almost instantly all the water crashes down onto my spray deck causing my deck to implode and my boat quickly fills up with water I then flip and flush I still had time underwater and didn’t see any point in swimming so I rolled up with my boat full of water and paddled to shore. On my next run I paddled into right side and to my surprise it was quite uneventful but I still had a great day and can’t wait till next Thursday.
