Going deep in the whirlpools - Liev Mitchell

Many people have heard of braindouche on the Ottawa, it may not be as infamous as some of the other rapids but its known for its whirlpools. They can be great fun in or out of your boat. If you want the whirlpools can suck you down for quite a while but if you want to go as deep as possible here are a few tips:

- jumping in will make it a lot easier to go deep.
- when jumping jump out 3-4 feet and try to land like a pencil about 1 foot upstream of the curler
- once you land pull your arms up and over your head pushing yourself even deeper
- if you are still oriented try to swim away from the shore
- wait for a surge to pull you down
- remain calm
