Why push button rocks! Julia Frangenberg

On the Ottawa there are countless features to play in at various levels, including big holes, small waves, and more. Personally, my favorite feature is push button, as it is similar to a few of the features we have at home. On the Potomac, the majority of the features we have are smaller sized holes or green waves, with the occasional big wave coming in when the river floods in the spring, so our play boating community usually revolves around a couple of features such as center chute and Maryland chute. Push button is wonderful for trying tricks that I’m working on at home such as mcnasties, blunts, and vertical tricks. It’s great to try tricks on both sides, and is really good to learn proper technique to stick a trick in the feature. Often when I’m playboating, I have the problem where I flush out of the feature way too quickly due to the wrong edging or not knowing how to land a trick in the hole. I have learned how to set up for certain tricks in a hole so that they don’t flush, which provides an advantage for surfing during competitions or sessions in other flushing features, because I can read the feature better which makes for an awesome session!!
