Why Whirlpools Make Me Sad - Patrick Kyle

This seems like the most obvious topic to write this blog post about, seeing as I've spent the last day off the water and will spend today and maybe some more days at Keenerville as well. At the Butcher's Knife whirlpools I jumped in a couple of times - didn't go very deep. Jumped in a third time and went very deep (third time unlucky). It was black and weird. I came up a while later and was dizzy. My ears hurt. I thought I was fine but my right ear started hurting more, and then during speech night it started bleeding. Then it stopped hurting and felt a bit like a balloon with a small hole in it letting out the pressure. I got to take some strong pills which was fun. Then I woke up with a bloody ear. Went to a doctors and got told I'd "ruptured my eardrum." This means I can't let water in my ear. Either option 1: Go Home or option 2: Get Earplugs. At the moment we're trying to get option 1 to work but I get to watch everyone else have fun at Garb. Lesson: whirlpools seem like a good idea but you might be unlucky. Make sure to listen to your instructors and accept that actions have unforeseen consequences. I'm, uh, not going into those whirlpools again.
