Why You Should Become Comfortable Being Uncomfortable By: Charles Brooks

During this session at Keeners I have learned many valuable lessons from my coaches and fellow Keeners. One of the lessons was that I needed to be comfortable in uncomfortable situations. On Thursdays at Keeners we do big water beat down Thursdays. These Thursdays usually include people dropping in to the big but safe holes and getting completely trashed but still coming up smiling and happy. This past Thursday I was very nervous to run a certain line on Phils hole. I was thinking about going for a macho move, which is a loop over a wave train, above the hole. I was very nervous on the inside that I might go into it upside down. After a bit of contemplation, I decided that I would go for the trick. I realized that the worst thing that could happen would be that i swam out of my boat and my friends were downstream ready for my rescue. Being comfortable in uncomfortable situations is an important life skill, because if you are in a very crucial situation and you would rather be anywhere else, you remember that your task needs to be done.
