My Wack Beat Down

Hi my name is Carly Koppe. This is my first session at keeners. I am probably one of the less experienced kayakers here. But I am getting better. (This information is useful for understanding my awesome beat down)

Normally, Wednesday are known for Race Day Wednesday, but I thought it was Beat Down Thursday. We were up at McCoys scouting out our race lines. To start out we scouted the rapid and the coaches talked about the fastest way to get from Point A to point B. We had to first touch the right side of the river then go to the island by football Eddie. Everyone was given a practice run. I made a nice pretty clean and almost perfect line. However, on my actual run caused a great beat down. I first start my ferry to the right side pretty well however I wasn’t fast enough and went a bit too far to the right. And right before my eyes I realized I was headed straight into the right side of Phills. Right side Phills makes for the best beat downs. (Let me remind you I never have ever really seen or ran right side before) As I was going in I was thinking “oh boy I am not going to make it out fast, but hopefully it will make a good beat down!” As I go in Phils it grabs me and throughs me around and I tumble a lot. It  yanks my paddle out of my hands not once but three times. I manage to gain my paddle back but finally after a fourth time it yanks it completely out. I hang on for a few more seconds then pull my skirt. After the fact I was disappointed that I didn’t have a good race line but I was pretty stoked about my epic beat down! And that concludes of my epic beat down.

Thanks for reading,
Carly
