Normally, one would place the popcorn in a well ventilated pot. This allows the kernels to pop without burning, flying everywhere, and not lighting the stove on fire.
Although this is the safe and correct way to make beautiful popcorn, it is not however how we attempted to cook it. When Sam and I attempted this, we did not think to do any of the necessary steps to make the popcorn. We placed very little butter in the pot, placed a non breathable lid on the pot, and turned the stove to high. When the butter was in the pot, we spread it thin across the surface, then placed the kernels in. Once we placed the pot on the stove, it instantly started to go wrong. The kernels began sizzling in the butter.
It took about one minute for the kernels to begin popping. It was very hard to notice when it was time to shake the pot, and the kernels began to explode. Once we finally found out it was time to shake the pot, it was too late, much of the popcorn had already began to burn. At this point we took the lid off the pot. Obviously, it started flying everywhere. Understandably surprised by seeing popcorn, we did not place the lid back on the pot till most of its contents were on the floor. At this point we realized our mistake, I panicked to get the lid back on the pot where it belonged At this point the popcorn was ready. Sam and I rushed to see the beautiful popcorn that we had created. However, in our haste, we neglected to notice that one of the kernels that had launched from the pot had burst into flames on the stove. Thankfully our Keener Mom, Tiffany, was able to alert us and contain the flame before it destroyed the cabin and possibly the entire world. Although popcorn is challenging to make, I feel that it can be done. Sam and I will continue the experiment of making this fine delicacy. One thing I hope to take away from keeners is the ability make the perfect popcorn. Today Sam and I have failed, however we fully intend to try again until it happens.
