The Best Beatdown Thursday by Max Feild:
Something about the last Thursday in the Keener session makes people really want to go for it all. Beatdown Thursday’s are already crazy and intense, with lots of swimmers and many skirt implosions, but the last one was different. For so many people, myself included, it had been our first year at Keeners. The past two Thursday’s I had a couple good runs into Phil’s hole, but never really committed to putting myself into the meat of the feature. Today, knowing it was my last chance, I surfed the right side of the feature, the stickier part, for the first time. I had an amazing time side surfing, getting barrel rolled, pitoning my boat, and paddling out with a boat completely full of water. Along with the ride of my life, I got to watch my friends, old and new, get tumbled in this massive hole. Few caught the triple crown, others failed miserably. Both outcomes were incredibly entertaining. Some swam, and the Keener team was quick to the rescue, resulting in a super exciting day with everyone left very satisfied with their performance.
