A helpful guide to keener jargon- By Maddie Norman

In the world of keeners, a new and fascinating vocabulary invariably arises to describe the dramatic unity of 23 teenagers and loads of whitewater. I proudly present the guide to understanding and interpreting keener jargon, to assist those who run across our group on the river, or new keeners just beginning on their journey of strange and inventive slang.
  • Wack vs Dialed: A helpful and almost universal rating system used to describe almost anything (wack carries negative connotations, while dialed is positive.)
  • Swole (like Joel): A standard of physical fitness to which we all aspire- this is what peak performance looks like, folks.
  • Tweaking: Freaking out
  • Full send: Absolute, full commitment to something, typically running a rapid.
  • Sendable: Similar to full send, but more cautionary.
  • Sketchy: Possibly not sendable.
  • Legit: Real, sincere, literal.
  • Stop flexing: Though universally understood, this term has been adapted to calm the raging ginger presence we've been experiencing this session.
  • Hype: Enthusiasm
  • Stoked: Similar to hype, but more river-focused.
  • Taking an L: Typically a foolish or embarrassing mistake.
A thorough understanding of these terms will help you enjoy your time at keeners, and better comprehend the strange beings that dwell there. Feel free to come find me if you'd like to discuss a potential addition to the guide to keener jargon.
