How to be a c1er at Keener’s
At Keener’s there has probably been only a couple of c1ers in the whole history or the Keener’s camp. I have no idea if I am the first or if I am the third. But basically I am saying that there has only been a couple or maybe just one c1er in the history of Keener’s I have no idea thought. Over the week being a c1er changes a lot about the drills. None of the coaches paddle c1, which means that you basically are going off of what you know how to do. One of the drills (the braceing drill) is completely changed. In a kayak you do a high brace where the paddle is on the back of the paddle face and in a c1 proper brace you use the front face of the paddle in a low brace. In the drill they are focusing more on the high brace on both sides but in a c1 you only have one blade meaning it’s hard to brace on the other side. One of the drills that’s easy to transfer from kayak to c1 is the loop stroke drill when going to Keener’s most people have there loop stroke down and when in a kayak u hold your hands behind your head and in a c1 you put your hands over your head which makes it really easy to do all the drills when practicing the loop stroke drill. So I would encourage all c1ers to try out Keener’s because it is a great opportunity to go kayaking on the Ottawa river, and hang out with so of the coolest coaches in the world!
