Trying new lines on familiar rivers- Luke Pomeroy

During our stay at keeners we paddle the Ottawa River's few rapids every day and it would get very boring to always take the same line without mixing it up. These rapids and features are awesome to keep on doing the same way but while at keeners we are always trying new things, experimenting with new tricks, challenging ourselves and progressing ourselves as paddlers. Trying out new lines is one of the best ways to make a easy rapid that you are comfortable with much more challenging. Today on the middle channel I tried out two new lines on my home river, the elusive Dragons Tongue, and catching the eddys in Little Trickle. Both of those were super fun to try and brought a new and exciting challenge to the day. Doing this is a great and fast way to challenge ourselves in a fun and exciting environment that we are already comfortable in.

Some good spots to do this at on the Ottawa right now are:

The tight side eddys at Normans at most flows
Any line at Garvins
Eddys at little trickle
Buseater tongues (Both Big Bus and Mini Bus tongues)
Big scary left eddy at Coliseum
And any other line you could ever see on the Ottawa! (with lots of thought to safety and required skill)
