How to stay warm on the water -Daragh McConvey

Why stay warm?
Getting cold can lead to hypothermia and frostbite but mostly just makes you miserable and can spoil a day on the river.

How the kit works?
we use a dry top to keep us dry and warm, some companies that make these are sweet protection, kokatat, etc. for cold weather a dry suit is used as it keeps your full body dry, however these don't keep you warm as there is no insulation in them, so thermals are needed. Thermals trap a thin layer of air between you and the material, this layer of air is warmed up by your body heat.

Head: neoprene skull cap preventing brain freeze

Hands: neoprene gloves or pogies to keep your hands warm and functional

Feet: seal skin or neoprene socks work best to keep your feet warm and dry. Booties are helpful if walking is necessary during your paddle.
