Reflecting on the week- Tim Vitkin

The first week of Keeners session 1 can in no way be described as uneventful.

The fact that the water level's higher than normal at this time of year means that there are more interesting features than usual. For example, the rapid Coliseum has features larger than any I have paddled; Minibus is the largest wave I have surfed, and Elevator Shaft, a slide into a 15 foot drop, is the steepest vertical drop I have paddled. These may be achievements I would have never received had Keenerville not been located directly at the base of the first rapid of the river.

Lunch is always something we look forward to. Although we as keeners always need to help out, typically by either picking up garbage or flipping burgers, this "nuisance" is offset by the fact that, collectively, we could scarf down more burgers than we flip. We keeners are always hungry, even off the water- we have to make our own food back at Keenerville.

Overall, keeners is definitely enjoyable. We learn a lot, we eat a lot. But in the end, we have fun.
