How to avoid poison ivy- Kaelin Friedenson

Poison ivy is worth avoiding because when you touch it, about 3 hours later the affected area starts to itch , swell , and you get little red dots. This is not comfortable or fun. With poison ivy it's not nice to go kayaking.

Places to avoid are trees with vines, shrubs in the woods, and near water sources.

You can recognize poison ivy by looking for 3 leaves, the out side leaves are shaped like mittens, they grow on stems or in vines. Another way to recognize poison ivy by it's leaves are one side is glossy and the other is not, but a easy to tell is if there is a red dot at the connecting stems.

If you have the unfortunate mishap of touching poison ivy you need to wash off with soap and water immediately.

If you have the red spots then you should not itch because you will only make it worse. You can buy calamine lotion to heal yourself. If you have to get out of your kayak and if you walk through the woods you must wash your legs and hands so you will not get the nasty rash.

Stay healthy - Kaelin.
