Hey, Sydney here:
Rush Sturges giving us some racing strategies on Wednesday |
Our coaches for the past few days have included the normal ones like Joel, Tino and Tyler, but we have also had the privilege to paddle with some amazing kayakers like Ben Marr and Rush Sturges and receive instruction from them. All of our coaches are so supportive and they are great at helping us achieve our goals. One of my goals for this session is to get my roundhouse. A roundhouse is a 180 degree change in direction using edge transition and your boat has to be elevated off the water between 1 and 45 degrees. I want to learn to do this trick because it is a good stepping stone to getting my blunt. In the morning warm ups the coaches have been making us do lean cleans on the flat water to help with edge transitions and using torso rotation instead of depending on your arms to pull yourself around. I've been working on roundhouses at the waves Babyface and Garb. The hardest part about getting this is because there are so many things going through your head while you're on a wave and you have to remember a few specific things to complete a trick. I'm going to continue trying to make my lean cleans better on flat water and I'm going to be working on remembering all of the parts to roundhouses while I'm on a wave.
