What you can achieve in 4 days of Keeners - Anya Sachs

When I first came to Keeners I was really nervous. I had recently just lost my roll and was expecting to swim on every rapid. What I wasn't expecting was such good instructors that helped me get my whitewater roll back by the end of the first day! By the end of the following day I was surfing Pushbutton and Mustache wave comfortably. As well as that, my roll was more solid than it had ever been. I couldn't believe my progression within such a short period of time! Wednesday I paddled the main channel along with the rest of the Keeners. This was something I was not expecting to do within only 3 days. Along with successfully paddling the main channel and surviving, I learned both hand rolls and back deck rolls! Two things I had tried before with no success and thought could only be achieved after much more practice.

Today was Big Water Bacon Beat Down Thursday (It's a keener tradition to eat plenty of bacon that day), and I got a shot at surfing Garburator for the first time. Honestly, I was uncertain whether this was something I would even have enough confidence to try within my stay at the Keeners course. Upon catching the wave I get the biggest beat down of my life. I'm flipped all around the place and when I roll back up I am greeted with the knowledge that my skirt has imploded. Luckily, we practiced rolling without skirts just this morning. However, that still sadly led to me evacuating my boat and a pleasant swim. I'm hoping that tomorrow I will be able to catch and surf it, but if not, I still have two more weeks to train and practice. I can only imagine what I will be able to do then!
