How to make it through SRT- Cowan Ramirez

From face value, Swift Water Rescue training seems something that would be very boring. This is the thought that I had when I woke up in the morning and went to the Thunderdome and not the river. The first thing that we had to do was go through the books and learn different definitions of river situations and features. I had a hard time staying focused throughout the first phase, all I could imagine is paddling on the river. After what seemed like a lifetime, it was to go swimming on the river. There was a catch though, we had to rescue our fellow Keeners while they swam through rapids. This was a little nerve racking, I have used ropes before but on smaller volume rivers. I just dived in head first, and after a little technique teaching from Clay, I was able to save my friends with ease. This is a two way exchange though, and I had to swim as well. I had to trust the person throwing the rope to actually get me, and I am happy to say that all attempts were successful. SRT is something that starts out boring, but it becomes interesting and useful.
