Last Blog post from Tim *tears*
Hey, Tim again for my last Big Water Beatdown day Blog. Today, as usual, we awoke to a morning activity and like every other Thursday, bacon (the best way to start a day of being beatendown). After warm-ups we paddled over to McCoys and hiked up to scout Phil's Hole. When water goes over a rock one of two things can happen it can create a wave or a hole. A wave looks similar to any ocean wave, but stays stationary on the river. A hole is when the water hits the bottom of the river and recycles back to the the top with a draw back making it harder to get out of. Phil's Hole is a tall hole with a very big recirc and difficult to get out of (especially without a paddle.) What may be considered as crazy by standards of most people is where Keeners have their most fun. We have a competition to see who can get beatendown the hardest and possibly take control of the big water features they face. This day, though intimidating, provides confidence and experience with bigger water and the feeling of being out of control and ultimately makes us better kayakers.
