Kalem first week of the last session.

Hey Everyone- Its Kalem.

In a week, I will be going to the Gull River in Minden, Ontario to practice for Canadian Team Trials. The trials will be held in a Earl's Hole- which I have never surfed. This makes me a little nervous, so I hope we get to go a few days early to practice and learn the feature. The team trials are to see who will be competing for Canada (for me it would be the junior division) at the US freestyle worlds in North Carolina next year. I don't know how well I will do this year, but I'm excited to go, and to gain more experience competing, and just see what it is all about. Last year, I competed in the Pan-Am games. I had only been kayaking for 8 weeks at the time. It was sick, even though I didn't do that well. This is why even if I don't place or make the team, I know I will still have fun.

Every Friday the Keeners have Competition Friday, where all the Keeners compete in an "A" Class and a "B" class on different features on the river. This has helped me learn some strategies in competitions such as doing your easy tricks first that you know you can get points for, and then throwing your harder tricks at the end of your ride.

In my next blog, I will tell how you I did- lets hope I do well and maybe even make the team.
